Optic connections with speeds of at least 1 Gb/s

Within the project IR optika 2 Arnes has been seeking to set up optic connections with speeds of at least 1 Gb/s at as many public educational institutions as possible, where they do not have their own optic connections or are already using optic connections but are paying high leasing fees for them.

In this way we wanted to achieve the objective of digitalisation of the education process at all levels of education, and to ensure an adequate information and communication infrastructure and e-services for the development of digital competences.

In this way Arnes has contributed to the adaptation of education to the digital age. The connections acquired represent an opportunity for higher quality and greater scope for teaching with digital technology, supporting the digitalisation of teaching methods and educational approaches and providing the infrastructure needed for inclusive and resilient distance learning.

204 connections for 67,000 pupils

ARNES set up optic connections at 204 public institutions in the research and education sectors. The 204 institutions included 2 school student dorms, 5 folk high schools, 179 primary schools, 2 primary schools for special needs children, 3 institutions for children and adolescents with special needs and 13 secondary schools.

ARNES therefore provided connections for more than 67,000 school pupils and thereby almost doubled the target number.

The connections offer high-quality conditions for managing a modern education system based on ICT,
by providing free connections ARNES lowered the cost of using optic connections for these institutions.

The total value of the programme amounts to EUR 5,900,000, with funds under the Recovery and Resilience Facility amounting to EUR 4,836,065.57.

The recovery and resilience plan is the basis for drawing funds from the European Recovery and Resilience Facility. It will contribute to the recovery of the Slovenian economy and help mitigate the social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. By implementing the planned reforms and investments for the green and digital transition, Slovenian society will be more sustainable, resilient and better prepared for the challenges of the future.
